Every year we see new styles and trends when it comes to tiles. Trends are normally determined by the industry leaders and early adopters. To find out the top trends of 2020, we reached out to 5 of Orange County’s elite interior designers  to ask what their favorite tiles of 2020 are and why. To find out their picks, continue reading.

My design aesthetic is to seamlessly blend different styles in a fresh, spontaneous, and limitlessly creative way. The collection I selected is a beautiful one-of-a-kind design that creates a dramatic look while still feeling serene and simplistic in style.

Our favorite tile of 2020 is Sea Glass Wave Pebble. We used this tile for a bathroom directly next to the pool. Not only is this tile so eye catching, but it has great functionality and durability aspects. When your client has a pool in the backyard, you (the designer) anticipate how the guest will be utilizing the bathroom without drenching the interiors! Our solution was laying this tile on the floor of the connected bathroom and straight up to the walk-in shower wall. This allows for guests to go straight from the pool to the shower for a quick rinse, and takes the worry away from our Clients of their floors getting ruined. The Clients love it, and so do we!

When we showed our South Tahoe clients the pool bathroom design for the Cloverland Residence, they fell in love. So, we used the tile twice! This time, in a powder bathroom to accent the green paneled walls and blue vanity. We particularly love the versatility of this tile and how it can be paired with so many beautiful finishes and colors.

My absolute favorite tile right now is the Hip 2B. I think the depth of the glass cut into the concentric squares wrapped with satin brass is so chic. I just used it for a central bar at a home on Lido and it is perfect. Just the right amount of Nautical flare with a modern side. I also changed the grout color to black for my purposes which helped give the tile even more depth.

I’ve always gravitated toward a natural, honed mix of materials that create a peaceful, inspiring and timeless feel in my clients homes. To achieve that sense of timelessness I’m looking for, I make a point to sidestep the trends and create a design that is either totally unique or a fresh twist on a classic. Beyond that, working with materials that come from nature provides some assurance that a tile will outlive the fickle fate of a hot trend or the inevitable evolution of manufacturing technologies.

My favorite tile of 2020 is the Bijoux Riviera Pattern in White & Navy Blue.  The pattern is playful while the texture is glossy and unique. I feel that the tile can be great for a backsplash or for creating a fun flooring pattern.  In any space the pattern would be a great addition and add whimsical character.
