Terrazzo has made a major comeback and we couldn’t be more excited! But why has terrazzo become such a trendy material?

Terrazzo has a versatile look that can be fun and neutral at the same time, not to mention its durability. It achieved popularity in the United States during the art deco movement in the 1920s. And with today’s technology, terrazzo has moved out from under our feet to absolutely everywhere.

We see terrazzo on countertops, backsplashes, swimming pools, and even on furniture. It is still a popular flooring material, especially for high traffic areas since it is extremely durable and resistant.

Terrazzo has its roots in Venice, Italy in the 15th century, when marble workers were setting marble chips into cement as a way to reuse marble scraps. After the fragments were set on cement, terrazzo was grounded and polished to create a smooth surface. It doesn’t stop with just marble chips, terrazzo can also be made with chips of quartz, granite, glass, mother of pearl, shell, or other materials mixed with either cement or epoxy-resin as the binder.

If you are looking for an eco-friendly option, terrazzo is known for its recycled composition and durability. It carries a long-standing reputation as one of the most sustainable materials available.

Is your main focus on aesthetics? If so, terrazzo is a great choice since it offers a wide variety of colors, textures and options for customization.

Terrazzo can be bold, neutral, elegant, and can be easily incorporated into any home. With so many qualities, it is easy to see why terrazzo is back into the spotlight.
